What is HERO

  • HERO is a rehoming and re-educating programme designed to showcase the standardbred breed to the wider equine industry.
  • Initially launched by HRV in 2015 and adopted by HRNZ in 2021.
  • HERO is established in the Canterbury, Southland and Northern region.
  • Horses are selected for HERO based on age, temperament, conformation, and soundness.
  • Horses are placed with a professional educator for approximately 8 weeks.
  • Horses will be schooled to a high level showcasing their versatility as a pleasure and competition horse.
  • Upon completion of their education the HERO horse will then be offered for sale with all proceeds returning to the HERO programme.
