Good Traveling Practices

Horses should be given the opportunity to eat, drink and urinate at regular intervals while traveling, this is recommended to be every four hours.

When traveling your horse on long distances you should have a plan for how you are going to get to your destination and where you can have rest stops along the way.

If only traveling for a few hours then it would be advisable to stop part of the way to let your horses have a rest and the chance to urinate. If your truck or float has the ability, you may like to offer your horse a drink or some food.

If you are traveling your horse long distance then you should have plans to stop to let your horse rest, urinate, eat and drink. You may like to plan ahead and organise a place where you can safely stop to take your horse off the transport so that it can eat and drink with its head down and in the natural position.
