Body Condition Scoring

 

The body scoring scale used to assess horses is included in the Regulation under Schedule 1. The horse is scored by assessing the amount of muscle and fat covering its neck; back and ribs; and hips. A score is allocated from 0-5, where 0 is emaciated and 5 is very fat. Ideal scores for racing horses is 1.5-3.
