This is my superstar Jimmy aka Spirit of Ireland.

Jimmy was rescued by a wonderful lady called Kirsty Parker, he was underweight and shut down.

She fed him up and when he was back to full health he went off to be broken in under saddle (I think). From there he was sold up North to Blenheim to become a trail riding horse, which is a bit like endurance riding.

He then came to me in Fairlie during 2013 at age 13 and he’s been with me ever since.

Jimmy and I have explored many different places all over the Mackenzie district and down to Otago.

He loves getting out into the hills, nothing really fazes him, he is very sure footed and will cross rivers or bogs with confidence.

We have done some cattle work and been to several horsemanship clinics which he loved.

We’ve been for a gallop at the beach down by Herbert, explored the hills around Mesopotamia station, Lake Ohau and pub rides at Methern.

He has a weird fear of mailboxes, and will give them a wide birth at all times, he doesn’t deal with tractors very well either, especially when they have their forks high.

He’s the top horse in my wee heard of four Standardbreds, and was my main riding horse until recently when I decided that he has earned a slower pace of life now that he is 20 years old.

We have learnt so much together, I was a nervous rider but with Jimmy my confidence has grown. He has a home for life here with me.
