Timely "weanling" wins in two $1m Slot races

They say 'timing is everything' and certainly the results of last weekend's two $1m slot races couldn't have been better for NZB Standardbred and their up-coming National Weanling Sale.

Last week Copy That led all the way to win the $1m Race by Grins at Cambridge Raceway and then hours later ex-Kiwi pacer Betterzippit upstaged Australia's best to win the inaugural $1m Nullarbor at Gloucester Park in Perth.

Both horses were sold as weanlings in this country.

Purchased for $1500, Betterzippit has now won 11 races and $681,647. He was bought out of the Alabar draft and sold at the 2018 All Age sale at Karaka.

Bred and raised at Woodlands Stud, Copy That was bought for $7500 and has now won 33 races and is on the verge of cracking the $2m mark ($1,985,801).

The success of the two coincides with the next NZB Standardbred National Weanling Sale at Karaka on May 25. Recent graduates of the sale include Alta Meteor and Sinbad.

There will be 123 lots with progeny from 22 stallions including Copy That's sire American Ideal as well as Bettor's Delight, Majestic Son and Captain Crunch.

"We have a quality catalogue of weanlings from some of the best families in Australasia by top-flight sires," says NZB Standardbred Manager Cam Bray, "it's an exciting line up this year, and looking at some of the graduates who have already emerged from the Sale, I’m sure there will be a few more stars to emerge from this edition.”
