RIB releases new whip use video
A new video, highlighting correct driving technique, has been produced by the Racing Integrity Board, and is available now.
In 2020 the rules were changed by Harness Racing New Zealand. The new rule prohibits drivers from taking their hands off the reins when hitting the horse with the whip. They must keep a rein in each hand while using only a wrist motion and are not allowed to engage the elbow.
Over the past three years there has been a lot of discussion and at times controversy about the changes.
The video illustrates exactly what's allowed, and what isn't, and should clear up any confusion about the new rules for drivers, trainers and other industry participants.
