Rogerson-Ferguson taking just two to Cambridge tonight

By Brigette Solomon

The training partnership of Graeme Rogerson and Dylan Ferguson is down on numbers but hopeful of a good showing at tonight's meeting at Cambridge.

“Both horses are well placed and racing in fields where they will be competitive” says Ferguson.

First up is Jaccka Cooper who starts in Race two, the Mid Winter Xmas Tickets On Sale Now Mobile Pace for Amateur Drivers. The gelding is driven tonight by Michelle Northcott who regularly drives in amateur driver events for the Rogerson/Ferguson stable.

“He always races well in the amateur drivers races,” says Ferguson, “he’s drawn seven but he will no doubt be heading to the front at some stage.”

Northcott has partnered the gelding to a win and several placings, most recently finishing second on April 25 at Cambridge. On that occasion the gelding led throughout the 2200 metre journey only to be run down in the final stages by Call Security.

Rogerson-Ferguson's second runner is Luka Doncic in Race 5, the NZB Airfreight Mobile Pace over 2200 metres. Ferguson drives the four year old Always B Miki gelding and is hopeful of finding some luck in running.

“He’s not had much luck lately and has been racing horses well above his grade, but he meets a more level field tonight and will finally be racing where he’s competitive, says Ferguson, "in saying that he will need some luck in running from his starting draw of seven.”

Alongside his own stable runners, Ferguson also drives the Jason Teaz-trained Ima Sportyangel in Race 3, the Woodlands Weanlings Are Group 1 Winners Mobile Pace.

The lightly raced five-year-old mare by Sportswriter finished fourth at Cambridge last week with a strong run home after an early gallop.

“She made a break off the gate at her last start which cost her a good position early,” says Ferguson, “she has always shown enough but is yet to put it all together on race day.”

“It’s a suitable race for her tonight and if she puts her best foot forward, I’m sure she can go close.”

Racing action gets underway tonight at 5:36pm.
