Williamsons big on quality and quantity at Winton today

With nearly 30 percent of all runners at Winton today, the Williamson clan has a major influence over today's re-scheduled Southern Surge meeting.

The 10-race programme gets underway at 1pm after yesterday's meeting was abandoned following foul weather and power outages in the area.

Phil and sons Nathan, Matthew and Brad line up 27 of the day's 106 starters. 

In Race 4 (2.16pm) the unbeaten Redback Bob, trained by Phil and to be driven by Nathan, is at $1.14 to make it three from three. The Majestic Son three-year-old looks set to be the day's shortest-priced favourite.

Phil also has Yukon Hill and Kings Choice in the same race while Brad has KD Corona

In Race 5 Nathan Williamson trains the two favourites, driving Off The Canvas ($3.30) himself with  with impressive debut winner Rakmacknra ($1.35) being driven by Max Hill.

"When I first went to Nathan's he was a horse I drove a lot in work," says Hill, "he is a lovely horse and has a great attitude."

Nathan then has two royal chances in Delphyne in Race 7 ($1.65) and Indulge Me ($1.25) in Race 8.

Though barrier 8 is somewhat of a daunting prospect, Williamson has no doubt the Brent McIntyre-trained Delphyne can overcome it .

"She's a really nice filly and I have been impressed with what she has been doing lately."

"She's definitely good enough to win from that draw."

"We probably just have to hope we don't run into too much bad luck along the way."

As a Group 1 placegetter, Indulge Me looks incredibly well placed against her lower-rated rivals.

Matty and Brad Williamson are also in for a busy days.

Brad has three runners (To The Moon And Back, Kracka Looka and Penelope Lane) and Phil has four (Harriet's Moment, Atlantic City, Have A Little Faith and Becky's Girl) in Race 9, the Diamond Creek/SBSR Southern Surge Final Mobile Trot (4.43pm). 

Brad also has three in Race 10 - Saucy Delight, Tabasco and Cracker Opie.  

Matty has two runners (Carbonate and Just a Gem) in Race 2 and in Race 7 (New Mexico and Mumsdawitch) and among his better chances for the day will be Becky's Girl, trained by father Phil. 

"She's very fast and she will need to use her speed to overcome a bad draw." says Matty Williamson.

"We will see how things pan out as to when we will need to use it, but you would expect there to be a bit going on early."

"We will have to pick our time to get into it."

"She's a smart filly and if she doesn't run into too much bad luck she will be right there."

All going well the likes of Becky's Girl and Delphyne will be on a one-way path towards New Zealand's best age group races if they can win their Southern Surge Finals today.
