Holbrough with four each-way chances at Addington today
By Mike Love
Canterbury junior driver Mia Holbrough takes the reins behind four good chances at today’s Addington meeting which features the $25,000 Hydroflow Silk Road Fillies and Mares Final Mobile Trot (4.27pm).
Holbrough will take the drive behind the Bruce Negus-trained Buffy Northstains ($8.50FF) in the event, and with a handy draw, coupled with some good recent form, Holbrough is confident the 21-race winning, eight-year-old Majestic Son mare, can feature.
“Her last two starts have probably been the best of her career. She needs a bit of luck, but with that she should be a really good chance.”
Negus also lines up Paige ($23.00FF), with Sheree Tomlinson, drawn one the second line.
Other chances in the event include the Mark Jones-rained favourite Wanna Play A Game ($3.80FF), with Sam Ottley, while the Brent and Tim White pair Ridge ($10.00FF) and Sheila Laxon ($5.50FF) look solid chances, among others in a very even line up.
Holbrough will link up with two other Negus runners.
In Race 6, te Road Metals Trot (2.48pm), over 2600m, Terry Webster ($51.00FF) will back up after a sound sixth on Friday night at Addington finishing less than five-lengths behind Major Cyclone. Manners will be key today, as Friday was behind the mobile.
“He’s going to be a nice horse in time. He can be a bit funny from a stand, but if he trots he should be a good chance,” said Holbrough.
There are a range of chances in the event, including current favourite Calmbeforethestorm ($3.80FF).
Mouton Cadet ($9.00FF), in Race 8, the Downbytheseaside-Making A Splash (3.45pm) Mobile Pace over 1980m, looks a great chance to feature with his barrier draw of one.
“He’s got a good draw. He has gate speed too, so hopefully we can lead up or trail. So he’s a got to be a chance.”
Holbrough rates Remission ($7.00FF), for trainer Jamie Gameson, her best of the day in Race 7, the Continental Event Hire (3.17pm) Mobile Pace, over 1980m.
“It looks like a lot weaker field than she’s been up against recently,” says Holbrough.
“She ran second on a Friday night (at Addington, to Heaven, May 29), so it should be a bit of a step back today. She should have a really good chance.”
Race 1 for the amateur drivers, and featuring the shortest priced favourite of the day, Folijon Star ($1.80FF) for Colleen Negus, gets underway at 12.17pm.
