Training treble for Green-Delany team at Cambridge

The training partnership of Ray Green and Nathan Delany enjoyed a memorable treble at Cambridge Raceway on Friday night, highlighted by exciting three-year-old Prince Lincoln.
The son of Always B Miki produced a performance that had plenty talking when he took out the Skyline Open Race Nights Mobile Pace over 1700 metres.
Given every opportunity by driver Matthew White, Prince Lincoln made full use of his favourable draw, pressing forward to find the lead before controlling proceedings throughout. While his dominant 4¾-length victory was impressive enough on its own, it was the clock that truly caught the eye.
Stopping the timer in a scorching 1:53.8 mile rate, Prince Lincoln announced himself as a horse with a bright future.
Co-trainer Nathan Delany was thrilled with the performance and admitted the talented gelding may soon find himself on the radar of American buyers.
“I expected a good run from him with the way he went at Auckland a few weeks ago,” Delany said.
“I thought if he got to the front and rolled along like he did, he’d be pretty hard to beat. I was really happy with him, and it was good for Matty to get the win on him as well.
“I think the Americans will try and snatch him up with the way he’s been going.”
Despite the impressive victory, Delany said there is no immediate rush to map out the gelding’s future, with winter racing beginning to quieten down.
“He’s a happy camper, he’s come through the run well. We’re just going to play his programme by ear at the moment. There’s not heaps coming up for him, so we’ll just have to see how he slots into the next few meetings.”
The celebrations were far from over for the Lincoln Farms team.
Just one race later, Major Copy provided Green and Delany with another winner when he took out the Clubhouse Sports Bar Mobile Pace, defeating stablemate Jessie Lincoln and completing a stable quinella in the process.
“Major Copy was very impressive. He’s only had the two starts now, so for him to come out and win how he did was great. He’s found the line really well, and he’s come through the run good.”
While victory narrowly eluded Jessie Lincoln once again, Delany remains pleased with the filly’s efforts.
“Jessie Lincoln, she’s just a wee eftpos machine, she just keeps running in the money,” he said.
“She’ll win one eventually, she’s doing a good job. She’s quite a big horse, so I think that patience will be the key with her.”
The team made it three for the night when Lincoln Wave won Race 8, the Daily Double Dose Mobile Pace. Both Major Copy and Lincoln Wave were driven by Maurice McKendry.
Now in just their second season in partnership, Green and Delany continue to build on the success that has long been synonymous with Lincoln Farms.
After training 44 winners in their first season together, Delany has his sights set even higher this year.
Last night's haul takes them to 23 wins for the year.
“We’ve got two main goals. Fifty winners would be awesome, we almost got there last season. The other big goal is to get a Group 1.”
With a proven operation behind them and a talented team of horses coming through the grades, both targets appear well within reach.
