Uncut Gems set to sparkle in a month
After being a Covid 19 casualty last year, the Uncut Gems are back this year - in fact they are exactly one month away.
Three $40,000 races have been confirmed for Alexandra Park on June 18, with two first-time sponsors getting on board.
The Empire Stallions (NZ) 4YO and older Mares race and the BetaVet Entires and Geldings race will be held over 2200m while the NZB Standardbred 4YO and older Trot is a handicap event over 2700m.
Based in Victoria, Empire Stallions offer frozen semen for the likes of Captaintreacherous, Betting Line, Stay Hungry and Somebeachsomewhere while BetaVet is a market leader in providing healthy, plant-based equine supplements. Their products are sold nationwide.
The Uncut Gems are seen as the perfect foil for the Harness Jewels at Cambridge two weeks earlier on June 6.
Horses can be nominated for the Uncut Gems as long as they are Sires’ Stakes eligible, are not Group One winners and have not finished in the top three at the Harness Jewels.
The Uncut Gems were held between 2017 and 2019 and among the winners have been such stars as Cash N Flow, U May Cullect, Massive Metro and Dark Horse.
