The top picks for Wairio

Check out the Wairio Trotting Club’s comprehensive betting guide for Wairio Cup Day.

Wairio Winners Race 1

Several promising first starters make their debuts in race 1 and each looks a decent eachway prospect.

Captain Starlight won the latest of his trials very nicely and looks well capable of featuring despite drawing barrier 13.

Northview Dance is in a similar position, having trialled well and having drawn on the second row in barrier 11.

Might As Well has a barrier draw advantage over each of them from barrier 4 and may be the safest eachway proposition.

Bender has exposed race day form and while he was just fair first-up, he should strip a lot fitter for this race and he is also a good eachway option.

Selections: Might As Well (4), Captain Starlight (13), Bender (12), Northview Dance (11)

Suggested bet: Might As Well (4) – Eachway

Wairio Winners Race 2

There looks to be a clear-cut top pick in this for me in Sand Wave, who was excellent in his last start on this track.

He may not pay too much so punters may prefer to look at place or combo bets.

So Art I is the logical horse to look towards from barrier 1.

Forget her last start, she copped a tough run, which she shouldn’t encounter again today.

The Nightwatchman is in great form and is a must include in Trifectas and First4s and he has quinella claims, too.

Superfast, Cool Idea and The Hornet should all be considered in those wider bets.

Selections: Sand Wave (4), So Art I (1), The Night Watchman (11), Superfast (2).

Suggested bet: Sand Wave (4) & So Art I (1) – Quinella

Wairio Winners Race 3

Key barrier draws look set to have a big impact on this race.

Hunting Weight has trialled well ahead of her return and starts from a sweet draw in barrier 3.

Joyfuldolly, who starts from barrier 4, is in a similar position heading into her debut, she has trialled well and looks a smart filly.

Seastorie has trialled very smartly ahead of her debut but she is parked way out on the outside of the second line in this mile sprint, which will be tricky.

She is a must in Trifectas and First4s.

Netherton Franco is positioned well in barrier 1 following a handy debut and is needed in your combo bets.

Selections: Hunting Weight (3), Joyfuldolly (4), Seastorie (13), Netherton Franco (1)

Suggested bet: Hunting Weight (3) – Eachway

Wairio Winners Race 4

Rock N Dash comes into this race after a strong performance at Wyndham on Wednesday.

She’s big on ability and just needs a bit of luck from barrier 7 to win.

Mr McLaren disappointed on this track last week but his win two starts ago was outstanding and he has to be considered from barrier 1.

With A Bang looks well placed in this field and should offer some decent eachway value.

Unsurpassable is a consistent type and those taking Trifectas and First4s can rely on him to run a very honest race.

Selections: Rock N Dash (7), Mr McLaren (1), With A Bang (10), Unsurpassable (6)

Suggested Bet – Mr McLaren (1) Eachway

Wairio Winners Race 5

Phil Williamson has a massive hand in this race with four quality trotters lining up.

Speaking on the club’s social media platform this week, Phil suggested Pyramid Mystic was his best hope, given she gets a head start over his three other runners.

Harry Stamper and Sheza Gift are among them and both were impressive last start winners on this track who both look strong eachway chances.

Of those outside the Williamson barn, Emma Louise has been going great races and must be considered.

Hot To Trot, who also has the advantage of starting from the front line should also go into your combo bets.

Selections: Pyramid Mystic (1), Harry Stamper (9) Sheza Gift (7), Emma Louise (5)

Suggested Bet: Pyramid Mystic (1) – Eachway

Wairio Winners Race 6

Wattlebank Star is a very smart filly and she’s got gate speed to put herself handy which could be a key advantage from barrier 6.

Especial is an experienced mare that is very well placed in this field, but she does have to overcome a tricky draw in barrier 7.

Show Me Heaven is very genuine and consistent and must be thrown into Trifectas and First4s.

Eastwood Isabella can definitely win this race, she has faced much harder fields recently.

She just needs a bit of luck after drawing barrier 1 on the second row.

Selections: Wattlebank Star (6), Especial (7), Show Me Heaven (5), Eastwood Isabella (9)

Suggested Bet: Wattlebank Star (6) – Eachway

 Wairio Winners Race 7

This is a quality lineup of trotters.

Andy Hall is arguably the best of them and has to rate top pick.

He’s primed to run a big race after having a workout on this track following his break after racing at the New Zealand Cup Carnival.

Springbank Mason performed admirably during Cup Week and has big eachway claims in this.

Jimmy Carter is on the same mark as the top two picks and rates just behind them.

King Cassidy may be one to spice up your First4 and Trifecta bets.

Despite his last start gallop, he is generally reliable and has the advantage of starting from the front.

Selections: Andy Hall (10), Springbank Mason (8), Jimmy Carter (7), King Cassidy (2).

Suggested Bet: Andy Hall (10) – Win

Wairio Winners Race 8

An outstanding and very even Wairio Cup field greets punters in 2021, so going wide looks the sensible option.

Get Up N Dance is a huge talent and well handicapped starting from the 10m mark.

But he is inexperienced and having his first standing start, which means he is not a home run.

Vintage Cheddar is a class act, has been here and won this race before but faces a 40m handicap.

Regardless of that disadvantage he is a huge winning threat.

Stablemates Warloch and Johnny Mac have winning claims and are strong Trifecta and First4 hopes.

I’mallaboutthebase, Artatac, Plutonium Lady and Memphis Tennessee each have genuine eachway claims in a very even race.

Selections: Get Up N Dance (6), Vintage Cheddar (13), Plutonium Lady (9), Johnny Mac (12).

Suggested Bets: Get Up N Dance (6) Win & Plutonium Lady (9) Place.

Wairio Winners Race 9

Punters looking to get out in the last can back Mr Cash Man with some confidence they will end their day on a good note.

His recent efforts have been outstanding and he looks hard to beat.

Peroni is a classy horse and can definitely win, but his second-row draw looks a slight disadvantage.

Midfrew Luisianabeau ran a huge race in his last start on grass, if he can replicate that on the all-weather track here he is right in this race.

Melton Mafia is very genuine and is a definite include in Trifecta and combo bets.

Selections: Mr Cash Man (6), Peroni (10), Midfrew Luisianabeau (4), Melton Mafia (3)

Suggested Bet: Mr Cash Man (6) – Win
