Telfer trio ready for Addington

Steve and Amanda Telfer take a small but strong team to Addington for today’s final June meeting. 

In Race 3, the Touchdown Car Rentals Pace over 2600m (1.25pm), Rock N Roll Dude ($3.10FF) returns to the races after a forced layoff. The three-year-old Rock N Roll Heaven gelding has not raced since debuting in August last year, and has since had an issue ironed out and trialled well in preparation. 

Co-trainer Amanda Telfer is confident of a forward showing. 

“He had one start after qualifying, then we found a bone chip and had it removed,” explained Telfer.

“He’s come back okay. He’s no superstar. He handled everything okay at the trials. The 2600m won’t worry him.”

Other chances in the event include the Ricky May trained and driven Blu Diamond ($5.50FF), who will be carrying much support from the wider harness racing community following the recent loss of his father and former trainer, Terry May. 

It will mark Ricky May's first official start as a trainer. 

The long overdue Ultimatum ($6.00FF) is in the market, while the early market mover is the Jonny Cox trained and driven Librici, from opening at $9.50FF and now into $5.00FF.

Two further heats of the Silk Road Fillies and Mares Series will be held. The first of those is Race 4, the Avon City Ford Silk Road (Non-Win) Heat (2.01pm), over 1980m. 

Debutant Bettabe Lou ($2.30FF) for trainer/driver Gerard O’Reilly, is tightening in the market, having opened at $4.20FF. The Sweet Lou gelding looked very strong in a recent trial, placing at Ashburton, and has drawn favourably in two, making them look hard to roll. 

The second of the Silk Road heats is Race 6, the Fahey Fence Hire Silk Road Fillies and Mares (Heat 3) over 1980m (3.11pm). 

The Telfers line up two runners here, the first at the top of the book, Bettor Off ($8.00FF) for Anthony Butt. After a strong first-up effort, the four-year-old Captaintreacherous mare struggled after sitting parked second-up, and will be looking to use her draw today. 

“It’s a great draw for her. Ants has options from the draw. I’d like to see her in front just bowling along. Her work was pretty good on Friday. She gets her chance.” 

The Telfers will also line up current race favourite Lous Pinup Girl ($3.50FF) with Tim Williams to drive.

“She’s been racing super and finishing her races off great without much luck. Her second-row draw doesn't help. Hopefully she just races as good as she has been, and she should get pretty close to them.”

Race 1 gets underway at 12.30pm.
