Robbie Holmes with good each-way chances at Addington

By Dave Di Somma, Harness News Desk

Two horses with very different career records headline Robbie Holmes' team at Addington on Wednesday.

The North Canterbury trainer lines up five runners with three looking like solid each-way prospects.

"The best chance is probably MM Sunshine - she went nice enough last start - while Captain Kiwi also looks a good chance," says Holmes.

Well-performed mare MM Sunshine is a $5 second favourite in the Stewart Dawsons Diamonds and Watches Trot (7.59pm) after finishing sixth at Addington in her last start last week.

"Things did not go her way in the junior race - they walked and then sprinted home which is not her way."

"She's better being put into the race," says Holmes, "if she can find the front she'd be hard to beat."

An 11-race winner MM Sunshine's last victory was at Addington in August.

"She's ticked over $100,000 so you can't complain."

In contrast Captain Kiwi, a $2.45 favourite in Race 8 (The Goldmark Jewellery and Watches at Farmers Mobile Pace (8.25pm) has had nine starts and is yet to place though he has three fourths in his last five starts.

"He's a horse that gets on a knee a bit so we've got spreaders on him and he can talk himself out of it in the run home sometimes."

"But we do like him and he is improving."

"Ideally we'd like to see Captain Kiwi get home for (owners/breeders) Hamish (Scott) and Kim (Lawson), who have done so much for the industry."

Another well-supported in the market is Outback Man ($6) in Race 5, The Magnificant Mainlanders Pace (7.34pm).

He was fifth fresh up at Addington a fortnight ago.

"He ran home nice and shouldn't be too far away from getting his foot in the till."

Of Holmes' other runners he has the former Dalgety-trained Sugar Babe in Race 3, the Tots Mobile Pace (5.55pm) and Adamas in Race 4, the Pascoes The Jewellers Celebrates 120 Years Mobile Pace (6.24pm).

Sugar Babe was eighth of 10 last week.

"She is fitter now and has worked well during the week."

Holmes says she's a potential top four prospect as is Adamas.

"He's been a bit ordinary the last couple of starts but he should be there or thereabouts."

Both Sugar Babe and Adamas are at $23.

Racing starts at 4.55pm.
