Owners night back – and popular

A sell-out’s expected for Addington Raceway’s Owners’ night on Friday May 14.

The meeting’s set to feature some top quality action including the running of the $200,000 NZB Standardbred Harness Million for the two-year-old Colts and Geldings and the Group One $120,000 Nevele R Fillies Series Final.

Starting at 5pm, the Owners’ night, the first at Addington since September 2019, will be held in the Christian Cullen Lounge. It is open to all owners, regardless of whether they have a horse racing on the night or not.

Capacity for the night is set at around 300.

“It will be full,” says Addington Raceway’s Racing Manager Darrin Williams.

“It’s all about recognizing and rewarding existing owners and also to encourage new ones into the game.”

The night has been months in the planning with a sub-committee working alongside Addington Raceway to bring it all together.

“There’s no charge to get in” says Williams, “everyone will get a drink on arrival and some food. And they can buy their own drinks after that or order off the a la carte menu if they want to.”

There will be 12 Expo tables in the room too, representing among others, racing stables, feed suppliers and racing syndicates.

“We want it to be a one stop shop, with plenty of information on what you need to know to get, and to race, a horse,” said Williams.

For those going around all the Expo tables and getting a “stamp” to prove it they will be eligible to go into a draw to win a seven day trip to Mooloolaba in Queensland, plus betting vouchers, gift baskets and horse supplements and feed.

Other prizes on the night will include a $40,000 insurance policy from NZB Standardbred, a ride behind the mobile gate, and a chance to be an “owner for the night”. This will include meeting the trainer and/or driver , watching the race from the birdcage and then celebrating, win or lose, in the Breckon's Winning Owners bar afterwards.

Anyone wanting more information, or to secure a spot for the night, should contact Darrin Williams on 0212260234 or darrin.williams@ addington.co.nz
