Old Town Road rocks his way into NZ Cup contention

After his eye-catching second in the Ashburton Flying Stakes, Old Town Road now looks certain to start in the New Zealand Cup at Addington in less than a fortnight.

The John Dickie-trained northerner produced the run of the race to finish second behind B D Joe and has improved nine places in the latest Cup rankings, going from 20th to 11th.

The top 15 horses make the field for the country's biggest race on Tuesday, November 8. The only other change is Kango dropping three places to 14th.

Hot And Treacherous remains just outside the cut though will have another chance to press his claims off a 50 metre handicap at Cambridge on Friday night. In the same race defending champion Copy That will start off 70 metres.

There are only minor adjustments in the rankings for the Dominion, to be held at Addington on Show Day, Friday November 11.

After his second to Muscle Mountain at Ashburton on Monday, Majestic Man is now fifth, going ahead of Oscar Bonavena, while Matua Tana (now 11th) and Chief Of Staff (now 12th) also swap places.
