Purdon/Phelan barn big movers in NZ Cup and Dominion

The gun northern stable of Barry Purdon and Scott Phelan have been the big winners in this week's rankings for Go Media New Zealand Trotting Cup week.

Four of their stablemates have made decent moves up the leaderboard just over a month out from racing's biggest day at Addington on Tuesday, November 10.

Better Knuckle Up, who was fourth in last year's Cup, sealed his place in this year's field with his win in Friday's automatic qualifier, the Holmes DG.

He is now fourth overall in the rankings, up seven places on a week ago.

It was a stable trifecta in the Group 3.

Stablemate Jeremiah has improved five places to be 17th with his third while Merlin has dropped one place, to seventh, after finishing second.

Fellow Purdon/Phelan runners Higher Power and Meant To Be have also climbed their way up the rankings for the Renwick Farms Dominion Trot.

Higher Power won Friday's Yabby Dam Farms City Of Sails Handicap Trot in convincing fashion to now be fifth (up two places) while third-placed Meant To Be has improved from 14th to 10th.

Friday night's racing at Addington saw Prestigious and Bounce N Beyond climb up the rankings following their 1-2 in the VIP Frames and Trusses Handicap Trot.

Bounce N Beyond is now 18th, up from 21st, and within three places of getting a start while Prestigious is up eight places to 24th.

And Methven Cup winner Franco Sinatra improved one place to seventh after his win at Mt Harding on Sunday, with third-placed Wag Star improving three places, from 19th to 16th.
