New harness racing show makes radio debut

Harness racing has returned to the radio airwaves today, with a new show hosted by well known racing figures Greg O'Connor and Michael Guerin.

Called "Trots Talk", the one hour show (from noon) is on every Sunday, following a partnership between Harness Racing New Zealand and the Sports Entertainment Network (SEN).

It will be broadcast on all SENZ stations around New Zealand or through the SEN App and will be available through www.hrnz.co.nz. SENZ can be heard on the same frequencies as the old Trackside radio.

Chief Executive of Harness Racing New Zealand Gary Woodham said "It's a major step forward for us, bringing Harness Racing back to radio.”

"The one hour show really allows us to get stuck into the sport we love. It's been 12 months since racing featured regularly on radio and while SENZ isn't a carbon copy of Trackside we are excited about what it has to offer."

“We want to keep those who already follow harness racing informed and entertained and we also want to branch out and attract new people. This deal is great for both. “

In Australia there will be a new Friday morning programme, “Kiwi Harness”, starting at midday (NZT). It will be hosted by Guerin.

The new programme will review any Thursday night meetings and also preview up-coming action on Friday night and over the weekend.

It will be available in New Zealand through the HRNZ website, and also via the SEN App on your phone. It will not be broadcast on domestic radio in New Zealand.

As well as the new shows, the SENZ partnership also has a new Thursday segment called ‘Pacing for Purpose’ whereby each show (Breakfast, Morning, Afternoon, and Drive) select a charity that they will then be raising money for across a 24 week period.

Each show will place a $50 bet on a Thursday night  New Zealand Harness Race with any collects going towards their nominated charity.

Sports Entertainment Network is a dynamic multi-platform sports and entertainment business, connecting brands with fans across radio, television, digital, publishing, stadiums, and events. The SENZ stations launched in July with 30 stations across New Zealand, and among its hosts are sporting luminaries Brendon McCullum, Israel Dagg and Ian Smith.
