Meet The Team - John French
JOHN FRENCH
Title: Registrations Officer
Role/Duties: Stallion Registration, Service Returns, Foal Registration, DNA, Microchipping
How long have you worked at HRNZ? Coming up 26 years
Are you involved in racing outside of work? If so how? Have shares in a horse. Help a friend with his horses on the weekend. Far from successful punter.
What are your hobbies? Fishing and metal detecting in no particular order.
Favourite horse from past or present? Lord Module and then along came Christian Cullen. I can’t split them.
What was your first paying job? Worked in a department store in Christchurch. I got paid the princely sum of $50 per week. Oddly, we were paid on a Monday.
Favourite holiday destination? Somewhere by the sea.
What do you like most about your job? Some of the clever names for horses that come across my desk. “Does It On His Ear” is the best one in recent times.
What is something that not many people know about you? I’m related to Alexander Aitken who was a brilliant mathematician. I think I’m useless at maths because he hogged all the good maths genes for generations to come.
