Jonny Turner's top four for Winton

Weeks of competitive winter harness racing culminate with Sunday's Winter Rewards Finals at Winton. After covering each meeting along the way, racing journalist Jonny Turner has made his picks for the final events and supporting races.

Race 1 (12.35pm)- Rakaturbo

It's an understatement to say Rakaturbo is overdue a win. He hasn't missed out due to a lack of trying, with the pacer racing very honestly throughout the winter. Many of his placings have come from tough draws, which he won't have to contend with in barrier 2 on Sunday. Rakaturbo has also taken on stronger maiden fields than he meets this week. It all adds up to the three-year-old getting a premium opportunity to break his maiden. He's burnt win punters 21 times before, but in his 22nd start Sunday could be Rakaturbo's day.

Race 3 (1.42pm) - Step It Up A Notch

Tenacious is the only word to describe this gritty pacer's recent efforts. Notch, as he is known to his fans, has taken on quality fields and produced strong top-four placings in his last three starts. In the first two, he even sat parked throughout before showing outstanding fight. The field he races on Sunday is a step down on what he has been taking on, paving the way for Step It Up A Notch to register a thoroughly deserved win. There isn't a horse in the race that would make him sit parked this week, so expect him to dominate from the front.

Race 5 (2.39pm) - Honeycomb

Honeycomb has been Southland's busiest horse with 23 starts so far this year. Her schedule hasn't done anything to dull her form, with her last start third in a Silk Road Final at Ascot Park one of her best runs yet. The mare checked and then wide at the 700m before sustaining a long run to finish third in good time. Honeycomb drops in grade to take on rating 35 company on Sunday in a Winter Rewards Final and she's got the game to be right in the finish.

Race 6 (3.10pm) - He Aint Fakin

There is one key statistic harness racing fans need to focus in on when assessing the chances of this very talented but slightly wayward trotter. He Aint Fakin has been to Central Southland Raceway three times for three wins. His mistake in his last start came at the much smaller Ascot Park where he was tripped up by the tight top bend, which has claimed many a square-gaiter over the years. The bigger track at Winton with its gentler turns is just what He Aint Fakin needs to show his class. While 40m is a daunting handicap, He Aint Fakin has a few more gears than most of his rivals. If he trots throughout, he should take a power of holding out.
