J T Boe well placed at Addington tonight

Team Telfer have made sure their junior driver Nikita Burton has got to know talented pacer J T Boe this week.

Because fresh from a win in the Darren De Filippi Memorial last Friday, Burton will get one of the bigger opportunities of her young career so far  when she partners J T Boe in the fast class pace at Addington tonight (9.13pm).

While the Winter Rewards races will be the focus for plenty of trainers and connections J T Boe versus Da Vinci has a quasi open class winter feel to it in Race 9 over the 1980m mobile.

J T Boe was enormous on his return to racing last start when he was slow away from a stand and refused to give up over the last lap, recording a huge fifth. 

He returns to the mobile tonight and sneaks into the race with Burton’s junior concession claim which will be a good test for the young horsewoman on a horse with a few tricks.

“He doesn’t really have an attitude he has just been a slow learner,” says co-trainer Amanda Telfer.

“But we were thrilled to get him in to this race and Nikita has been doing all the work on him this week.

“We actually have Semba in the same race and I’d like to see him in front setting a good speed to use his barrier 1 so hopefully J T Boe can sit off them but he has to be a good chance.”

The Telfers face a similar situation with another very progressive pacer in Tact Teva against Scrunch in Dakins Waste Winter Rewards (Race 8), with the pair both coming   from the worst draws, in this case off the outside of the second line.

“Tact Teva is really in the zone at the moment, he has been bucking his brand off,” says Telfer.

“He won well last start but was disappointing when third the start before after trailing but we later found out his blood wasn’t quite right.

“He is very fast when saved for one run so the draw may not be too bad but Scrunch is in good form so won’t be easy to beat.”

While Tim Williams is the stable’s No.1 southern driver it will be Burton who partners what Telfer thinks is the best of the stable’s three winning chances in Race 1 tonight.

“I think Beachbreak is our best chance but he got into the Winter Rewards race and I initially thought he had to start so I put Tim down to drive C C Arden instead.

“But as it turns out he didn’t have to start in that race and I think it was too tough for him anyway so he will start in Race 1 with Nikita on. I think he is our best chance of the three.”

The stable also has three in the five-horse juvenile Race 3 with Amanda suggesting Chilli Gold could be the improver after being forced to pull a flat tyre from early in the race last start, although that race does have a hot favourite in the Regan Todd-trained Fundraiser.

The night’s five Winter Rewards races will provide great betting contests as usual so the recent trend of strong Friday night turnovers should continue.
