Initial Rankings for 2022 NZ Cup and Dominion

The first rankings lists are out for the IRT New Zealand Cup and the Renwick Farms Dominion to be held at Addington in November - and three Australians have made the top ten for the country's biggest race on Tuesday, November 8.

Defending champion Copy That is at number one followed by 2020 champion and 2022 Auckland Cup winner Self Assured and then Heza Sport and Alta Wiseguy who get in courtesy of their wins in the Cup qualifying races, the Maurice Holmes Vase and the New Brighton Cup.

Messenger winner Majestic Cruiser is the top-ranked Australian at five, followed by the multiple Group 1-winning Lochinvar Art and the ninth-ranked Rock N Roll Doo who won again, at big odds, last weekend.

Kango, who finished third behind the Arna Donnelly-trained stablemate Taipo in Auckland last night, makes the top ten with Krug at 11.

The highly-rated Akuta, who is a $1.90 favourite to win Sunday's Hannon Memorial, is currently ranked 20th, with emerging northern star Old Town Road at 26.

The top 15 ranked horses will make both the Cup and Dominion fields.

Two-time champion Sundees Son leads the Dominion rankings from arch rivals, Rowe Cup winner Bolt For Brilliance and Ordeal Cup victor Muscle Mountain.

Mataderos is next at four, with Majestic Man, who lines up at Addington tonight, at 6.

The rankings will be updated weekly in the build-up to racing's biggest week, and published on hrnz.co.nz
