Dangerous smashes clock in Albion Park trial

By Adam Hamilton

Jason Grimson first burst into the big league winning an Inter Dominion and he has made an early statement ahead of next month’s Brisbane series.

Grimson’s latest stable addition, former 2024 Inter Dominion heat winner Dangerous, smashed the clock winning an Albion Park trial yesterday.

The six-year-old’s 1min48.3sec mile rate for 1660m “unofficially” broke Leap To Fame’s 1min48.6sec track record.

Onlookers were gobsmacked.

It was Dangerous’ first public appearance for Grimson just a week after being transferred to his stable from Victorian trainer Shane Sanderson.

Under Sanderson’s care, Dangerous won 13 of 50 starts, was placed in another 16 and banked $267,785.

As well as winning a heat of that 2024 series, he ran a solid fifth to Don Hugo in the final.

Dangerous has had his share of issues and Grimson has a fantastic strike rate of resurrecting such horses, as evidenced by his 2021 and 2022 Inter Dominion final wins with Boncel Benjamin and I Cast No Shadow.

Another injury-plagued star to thrive for Grimson has been Hi Manameisjeff.

Dangerous led with Grimson himself in the cart with his champion stablemate Captains Mistress on his back.

They ran splits of 28.7, 27.0, 25.7 and 26.8sec.

Dangerous’ Inter Dominion odds have crashed from $501 opening to $3.60 after the trial.

Although Dangerous won the trial by 4.1m, Captains Mistress, with Tayla French aboard, went to the line hard-held and looked like she could’ve gone past him any time.

Captains Mistress is also Inter Dominion-bound, but in a different way.

The former Kiwi four-year-old mare will need to win Saturday week’s $300,000 Group 1 Rising Sun, which carries a golden ticket into the $1 million Inter Dominion final on July 18.

Another of Grimson’s new additions, Bathurst Gold Crown 2YO winner Jacwill Kid, also turned heads at the Albion Park trials.

The son of Huntsville showed he was right on target for the $500,000 Group 1 Protostar on July 11 with a runaway trial win.

Jacwill Kid, also with Grimson aboard, cleared out to win by 23.6m in a 1min53.9sec mile rate for 1660m.
