Cranbourne wins Methven Cup

Cranbourne is set to continue his progress up the New Zealand Cup rankings after winning the Lazarus at Alabar Methven Cup this afternoon.

Trained by Brent White at Ashburton and driven by Stephen McNally, Cranbourne followed up his win at Addington on September 1 by making it two in a row.

After his Addington win he went up six places to 23rd in the New Zealand Cup rankings. Now he’s set to be right in contention to make the field for Tuesday November 9.

Cranbourne was in the one-one turning for home in the 2850 metre Group Three and although a bit late in getting out he darted to the line ahead of Steel The Show and Vintage Cheddar.

Cranbourne paid $7.10 for the win. It was his ninth win in 22 starts.

Favourite Kango missed the start then circled the field before being parked. The run for fourth was full of merit.

The winning time was 3:37.8

The meeting is being held at Orari after recent damage to Methven's Mt Harding track.
