Clock ticking for Harnesslink
Friday is D day for global harness racing platform Harnesslink.
Tomorrow, October 10 marks the 23rd anniversary of the site set up by well known harness racing personality and international bloodstock agent John Curtin and that's also the deadline for a new owner to get onboard.
"The clock is ticking," says Curtin, "once it's gone it's gone forever."
The website is in Curtin's words "a one stop shop" for harness racing news from all around the world and he is prepared to hand over the website to the right person for nothing.
"It's an incredible opportunity - we have around 7500 loyal fans all over the world."
"Ideally it would be someone in New Zealand because the time zone here is perfect internationally."
"I'd like to see someone in their 20s or 30s with a passion for the sport," says Curtin, "it's all set up they just have to walk on in."
"Ideally the new person has to take on four or five employees."
Curtin estimates Harnesslink costs around $20,000 a month to run.
"We need someone with a flair for advertising and marketing to come in and make it work."
At 74 Curtin says he's devoted a lot of time to it over the decades and it's time to step aside though he is happy to work in the background if a new owner is found.
"I've had a lot of interest and have two meetings today and tomorrow and someone has to take it on or it closes down."
