Winterfell heads to the beach

Trotter of the year Winterfell has joined former New Zealand Cup champion Thefixer in moving from the All Stars stables to Regan Todd’s barn in North Canterbury.

The Interdominion champion got his first look today at the Woodend beach which will now be his new home.

Todd was approached by Winterfell’s breeder-owner Trevor Casey on Friday, and duly picked up the horse yesterday.

Winterfell (13 wins from 33 starts) has struggled of late going the left- handed way at raceways like Addington. His last victory was in the National Trot  at Alexandra Park on New Year’s Eve and if he doesn’t show improvement soon Todd says he may be headed north again.

Winterfell’s next appearance will be at the Group 3 Ashburton Trotters Flying Mile on Labour Monday.

Winterfell is the latest high profile  All Stars horse to join Todd’s barn, after 2018 New Zealand champion Thefixer moved there earlier this year after suffering from recurring foot problems.

With the New Zealand Cup now just three weeks away Thefixer also heads to Ashburton on Monday for the Flying Stakes. Todd’s delighted to have two such high quality horses in his stables, together they have 25 races and nearly $1.5 million.
