Williamson Whitewash at Cromwell

Brad Williamson notched the first training treble of his career, dominating the trotting events at Cromwell yesterday in typical Williamson style.

The trainer got to watch on as key stable member Kerryn Tomlinson drove Tony Mac and Domination Call to victory before Williamson piloted Laurie’s Legacy to a powerful staying victory.

With Williamson winning the first three trotting races at yesterday’s meeting, there was just one race left for the other trainers to vie for as the big 12-race card went on.

Father Phil and brother Matthew Williamson combined to win that, wrapping up a Williamson trotting whitewash.

Brad’s winning run started when Tomlinson drove Tony Mac to a front-running victory in yesterday’s opener.

The three-year-old is a half-brother to Cracker Hill raced by a big group owners brought together by Queenstown harness racing enthusiast Gary Preston.

“Gary has been a big part of helping my stable because he syndicated Cracker Hill and decided to send him to me.”

“He has got this guy – Tony Mac – and he has got another two yearlings from the sales.”

“He has got a lot of people involved with Tony Mac and a lot of them were there today with Tony Mac hats and t-shirts.”

“It was great, they still celebrating after the races.”

Tomlinson and Williamson doubled up when Domination’s Call produced perfect manners to win race 3.

The well-related trotter has only trotted throughout a whole race twice in his short career and he’s won twice.

It is clear the four-year-old will have a big future once he gets the hang of the trotting game.

“He has got the ability but his gait has been his problem.”

“Being on the grass track today where we have been staying was a help, it was a bit of a home track advantage and he went great.”

“It was great for Kerryn to get a couple of wins today, too.”

“She is a big part of my stable.”

Laurie’s Legacy continued her impressive rise, backing up her impressive win at Omakau oni Sunday with another strong victory in race 9.

The five-year-old is in a similar category to Domination’s Call.
Her ability hasn’t been questioned, but her manners have let her down at times.

But she has put both together this week to deliver two victories in four days.
“She just keeps stepping up, I think he has trotted the whole way five times for four wins for me.”

“She is definitely not done yet, she has got great stamina, she’s tough as teak.”

“She sat parked and she had a horse coming at her that has won a lot of races.”

Laurie’s Legacy scored by a nose over runner-up Sioux Princess in her 2600m assignment.

The five-year-old, raced by Gerard Cayford of Waikouaiti, stopped the clock in 3.25.5, a faster time than yesterday’s feature trot.

Jimmy Carter put errors in his last two starts behind him to deliver a faultless win for trainers Phil Williamson and driver Matthew Williamson in race 11.
