Williamson keen for hot streak to continue
By Jonny Turner
Matthew Williamson will be out to continue a golden recent run at Ascot Park on Saturday.
The trainer has produced a winning double at the last two Invercargill meetings and he has three runners aiming to bring him a third.
Jordan Anne has been among Williamson’s recent winners and she looks a big chance of taking home another victory on Saturday.
“She has been going super – it was another good run last start,” Williamson said.
“She is just drawn out a bit and with Miss Jessica drawn 1 it might be tricky.
“But if she can get a trip to be thereabouts at the top of the straight – she is racing really well and she should be an eachway chance again.”
Majestix looks another decent trotting hope for Williamson in race 3.
The filly takes her first step out on maidens on Saturday and her trainer thinks she can handle it.
“She had a really good win the other day and displayed good manners, she is starting to work the game out a bit which is great.”
“Hopefully she can show good manners again, it is a step up in grade but I would like to think she would have enough ability to go with them.”
“If she behaves herself and gets an OK run she can definitely go with them.”
Robyns Shadow is the outsider of the Williamson team given he’s been ordinary in his last two starts.
But three starts ago the pacer ran a great second at Ascot Park.
If Robyns Shadow turned up with that kind of form on Saturday he may be able to surprise.
“He has been very disappointing in his last couple of starts.”
“We have made some gear changes with him and changed his training around as well.”
“We will see if that can inspire him – it is a race he would be very competitive in on a good day.”
Oneloveonelife looks the best hope among Williamson’s outside drives on Saturday, though the horse has drawn a tricky alley in barrier 1 on the second row.
