Whites take two good chances to Addington today

By Mike Love

Ashburton trainers David and Stacey White have a handy team of young horses bubbling away in their barn. Today they take two live chances to Addington's short and sharp Sunday meeting.

In Race 1, the New Zealand Bloodstock Mobile Trot (1.36pm) over 1980m, debutant Condor ($3.90FF) will take his place, driven by co-trainer David White.

The two-year-old Bold Eagle gelding has trialled well, including footing it with stablemate Montara who ran a promising second first up.

“I can’t really split those two ability wise,” says White.

He will have to be good to challenge Lexicon ($1.50FF), who is currently the shortest priced favourite of the day for trainer/driver Bob Butt, after running a credible second fresh up to Neil William a couple of weeks ago.

Condor has drawn wide in barrier eight.

“He’s not mentally mature yet, and can get a bit keen. It’s good to draw out a little wider so he can find his feet early. Hopefully we can find a good spot and he should go a good race.”

“He’s good-gaited, so he should be pretty competitive,” said White.

A little later on in the seven-race programme, Our Harmony ($2.70FF) will be looking to strike third up this campaign in Race 5, the Thanks Doug & My Loyal Owners & Supporters Mobile Pace (4.09pm), over 2600m.

After a strong fresh-up run after a long lay off, Our Harmony was then left doing all the work at her most recent start.

“She’s come through that run well, and her work has been good this week.”

“She was 12 months between runs first up. She should be very competitive.”

Other runners in the market include Moonlite CC ($4.50FF), with Robbie Close for trainer Andrew Stuart, drawn one and should receive an economical trip. And Sugar Babe ($3.30FF), with Carter Dalgety for trainers Cran and Chrissie Dalgety.

The Whites have plenty to come before the season is out.

“We are working about a dozen at the moment. We should have a strong backend of the year with several two-year-olds ready to hit out towards the end of August.”
