"Top Horse Contenders" finalised for HRNZ annual awards

The final four have been decided for the "Top Horse Contenders" at the 2025 Harness Racing New Zealand awards.

The best of the year's performers will be celebrated at Addington Raceway on Saturday, January 31.

There will be around 40 awards in total, culminating in the naming of Horse of the Year.

In a departure from usual practice there will be four "Top Horse Contenders" for both gaits in every age group, with all Group 1 winners automatically making the cut.

There'll be a strong trans-Tasman element to the awards too with New Zealand Cup/Christian Cullen winner Kingman, Gus, who won the Dominion Trot - Free For All double, as well as Tracy The Jet, Kyvalley Ray and Leap To Fame all featuring in their respective categories.

The 3YO Pacing Colt and Gelding category also sees Marketplace and Got The Chocolates squaring off each other after an epic series of clashes in 2025.
