The Trials Report – Six Of The Best

The following horses have trialled pleasingly in recent weeks and now (6/8/26) they head back to the racetrack.

FRIDAY - ALEXANDRA PARK  

Lathered In Love (2f Lather Up – Love Yourself) Tr. M White

Three wins in 3 public appearances, the latest at Pukekohe (28/7/26) where she led and stayed on strongly to just hold out a strong finisher in Seaside Legacy (1 start for 1 win). MR:2:04.2, 800m in 59.7, 400m in 28.4. Now heads to Auckland this Friday night in Race 3 for her much anticipated race debut. Has drawn the pole over 1700m due to fillies getting preference over the ‘boys’ and Crystal Hackett who has been aboard at the trials stays with the filly for the race. Dam won two in a short career and further back in the pedigree there are some serious performers including millionaire mare Tupelo Rose (35 wins)

Jeremiah (5g Lazarus – Flyover) Tr. Purdon / Phelan

Prominent at northern workouts during June before resuming as favourite at Auckland (26/6/26) where he didn’t get all favours in the running but still able to stick on for second behind American Me on a 55.6 last 800m. Back at the workouts (28/7/26) and led throughout in a three-horse heat to hold out race rival Rubira but did look to be under ‘double wraps’ over the final stages. MR:2:07.6, 800m in 57.0, 400m in 27.0. Back at the Park this Friday (Race 7) and based on preferential draw has drawn the worst marble over the 1700m mob but chances have been enhanced with two early scratchings inside. Sprint record is very good and looks a strong chance to grab win number eight.

FRIDAY - ADDINGTON 

Seeking Love (3g Love You – Shell Seeker) Tr. R & J Dunn

Sensational qualifying effort last week at Rangiora leading and clearing out by some 28L, 17+ secs under qualifying time, almost unheard of. MR:2:05.9, 800m in 59.9. Debuts this Friday night at Addington (Race 3) and while one can never get too confident with maiden trotters on debut, the trial suggested he could be a bit special. Half brother to the well-performed Princess Sadie and it would come as no surprise to see him a warm order on the tote. The horse to beat is likely to be Evangalist who won 10 races pacing and also debuts as a trotter in this event. Trial winner at Rangiora on the same day.

Eun Sogno (3g Captain Crunch – One Dream) Tr. C & C Dalgety

Resumes this Friday night at Addington (Race 5) and has had three trials to prepare in July, the last a winning effort at Rangiora (29/7/26) where he worked to the lead then held on strongly to win impressively in a good time. MR:1:58.5, 800m in 56.8, 400m in 28.0. Won the four from 7 as a 2YO then mixed it with the likes of Jumal early as a 3YO for little reward. Draw no help this week but last trial indicated that he's ready to rumble. Out of a top race mare and his class should take him a long way. Certainly one to follow.

SUNDAY - ASHBURTON 

Pickettywitch (3f Always B Miki – Turaga) Tr. R Austin

Hasn’t raced for six months but did finish last campaign with a couple of nice placings and has been back at the trials in July with solid form. Placed behind subsequent winner Asymmetric Return (22/7/26) then won a trial at Rangiora (29/7/26) coming out of the trail to beat pacemaker Seafolly.MR:2:07.5, 800m in 56.5, 400m in 27.3. Goes to Ashburton on Sunday (Race 8) and has drawn the pole from the 2400m stand. Top junior driver Harrison Orange gets the drive and she began safely enough in her latest trial win. The Miki's get better with time and this filly has been given that time. Has a bit of breeding as well to back up a potential successful return to the race track.

SUNDAY - INVERCARGILL 

Redback Bob (3g Majestic Son – Dwindle Mist) Tr. P Williamson

A succession of trial and workout wins were franked by an impressive debut effort at Wyndham (2/8/26) last week. Showed gate speed to lead and did enough to hold out stablemate Kings Choice. MR:2:09.5, 800m in 60.0. Straight back to Invercargill this Sunday (Race 6) and despite the rise in class, looks more than capable of ‘doubling up’. Man of the moment Nathan Williamson (6 wins at Wyndham) keeps the drive for father Phil and tote price should reflect the confidence from punters. The removeable deafeners were not activated on debut due to having the field covered (stipes report).
