The Trials Report – Six of the Best
The following horses have trialled pleasingly in recent weeks and now (16/7/26) they head back to the racetrack.
Friday - Addington
Nothing But You (4m Captaintreacherous – Bubbled Up) Tr. S Reid
Top trial at Rangiora (1/7/26) when second behind Wheels Of Fortune on a 1:57.7MR. Resumed at Addington last week and after showing gate speed to lead, trailed mid-race and just not able to pick up the very handy Mostert, final 150m MR:1:58.6, 800m in 56.8. Second up at Addington on Friday night in Race 1 where she is the only runner on the second line. Maybe that draw not as bad as it looks. This looks an easier task as she is the equal highest rated horse in the field and very likely to be fitter after last week’s effort. No doubting her class or her consistency. Strong chance.

Nikolai Ray (3g Art Major – Longview Lady) Tr. K Barron
Trial winner at Rangiora (1/7/26) after leading and doing enough to keep his rivals at bay over the final stages MR : 2:02.8, 800m in 57.7, 400m in 28.4.
Resumed at Addington last week and went back from a wide draw, seen doing its best work over final 200m to get up for fourth. Back at Addington this week (Race 3) and cops a major swing in the draw (2). Was quite active as a 2YO last season with 12 starts across the year but did run some very sound races behind some handy sorts and never far away in most of those starts including six top 4 placings. This seems like a royal chance to break through for that maiden win

Rock N Roll Dude (3g Rock N Roll Heaven – Sarandon) Tr. S & A Telfer
Won a trial at Rangiora (16/6/26) by leading three rivals all the way and not flinching over the final 200m when challenged. MR:2:07.3, 800m in 59.9, 400m in 28.9. Resumed at Addington (28/6/26) when favourite and did things wrong before recovering to lead and showed those same staunch qualities to keep rivals at bay in a 2:04.5MR. Back at Addington this Friday (Race 4) and it represents a step up in class. Won a trial as a 2YO and did things wrong again on debut at Gore when fifth of 7, both in August of 2025. Not a big horse but obviously he is some kind of ‘dude’ and doesn’t seem to like his rivals getting past at the business end. Dam won six and he is her first foal.

Friday - Cambridge
Arose (3f Lather Up – Gracelands Rose) Tr. A Donnelly
Strong trial form through May including a win over race rival Sea The Cash in a 2:01.1MR, last 800m in 57.6. Three runs back in a new campaign have been very encouraging with the latest a solid fourth behind Olympic Ko (3/7/26) at Cambridge, last 800m in 57.7. Even better behind Sriracha (19/6/26) on the same track when second. Looks like a horse ready to break through and gets another chance (start No 8) at Cambridge of Friday night (Race 5) where she has a very handy draw to use. This looks like the night she can get that maiden victory.

Evernden (3g Fear The Dragon – Tenehi) Tr. Hollis/Robertson
Nice trial at Pukekohe (23/6/26) where he trailed fourth of 4 behind the promising No More Dreaming before putting plenty of dash into his finish wide out to get within a length of the winner MR: 2:03.2, 800m in 58.4, 400m in 27.7. Backed that effort up with a fresh up run at Cambridge (3/7/26) and just nabbed by On The Mark on a 1:58.9MR when looking the winner until very close to home. Second up at Cambridge this Friday night (Race 3) and scores a very handy draw (2) in a field devoid of really good form. Not a lot to show from his previous 12 starts but this looks like a great opportunity to break through if he runs up to his latest public appearances.

Sunday - Addington
Our Harmony (4m Bettor’s Delight – Our Melody) Tr. D & S White
Nice trial at Ashburton (16/6/26) running on strongly final 300m to place second behind Jimmyray (7 wins) MR;2:06.6, 800m in 56.4, 400m in 27.4 in a six-horse heat. Backed that effort up with a solid third when resuming behind Molly Maeve Estelle (28/6/26) at Addington after showing plenty of gate speed to lead from the outside of the gate before trailing midrace. Things didn’t work out in mares Silk Road final last week behind Larissa Beaudiene after being caught ‘parked’ for most of the trip. Third up on Sunday at Addington (Race 5) over the longer trip of 2600m and has a good draw to show off her gate speed with main rival Sugar Babe drawn to her immediate outside. The veteran of only four race day starts and still learning her craft after winning on debut at Cambridge. Major player if she can settle in the running.
