Sundees Son in record-breaking win at Kaikoura
Millionaire trotter Sundees Son is back.
The reigning Horse of the Year was back to his brilliant best, winning this afternoon's IRT South Bay Trotters Cup at Kaikoura in a new race record.
The seven-year-old took out the 2400m Group 3 in 2:59.42.
After gallops in his last two races a question mark hung over the champion's form but after a steady start from the 15m backmark John Dunn found the front with a lap to go and gave no-one else a chance.
Midnight Dash did just that up the passing lane to grab second from Matua Tana.
The well-favoured Bolt For Brilliance ran on without threatening his great rival while Smokin Bandar led early but lost all chance with a gallop.
Sundees Son's win couldn't be more timely as he guns for his third straight win in the Renwick Farms Dominion on Friday, November 11 at Addington.
