Stonewall Stud with leading chances at Motukarara

Trainers Steve and Amanda Telfer have put together a strong team of four runners to tackle the Halswell Raceday at Motukarara today.

Co-trainer Amanda Telfer was quietly confident of some forward performances from some, and improvements from others ahead of the 11-race meeting that starts at 11.50am.

In Race 1, the Tim Williams and John Dunn Pace over 2170m, Premier Arden ($8.00FF) will line up with Tim Williams himself in the sulky. The three-year-old Tall Dark Stranger filly comes into this assignment after a couple of trying runs in recent Southern Oaks heats.

“It's her first start from a stand, which brings up a few queries. If she can put herself in the race she should go alright. The Oaks heats were quite rich, so she drops back in grade a little bit,” says Telfer.

In Race 3, the Goldtodd Lodge and Sam Ford Mobile Pace over 2000m (12.39pm), Mamas Crunch ($1.70FF) lines up again with Williams. Third up this campaign, Mamas Crunch showed sharp improvement in her second up run, finishing a strong second. Now stripping fitter, Telfer is confident the three-year-old Captain Crunch filly is ready to strike today.

“She’s come through that run good. We are quite happy with her. She can’t do too much work, and it's her first go on the grass, but I think with a little bit of luck its a winnable race for her.”

Another Williams drive, Toffee Potts ($7.50FF) takes her place in Race 5,  the Julia, Maree and Stevie At Harcourts Pace over 2170m (1.29pm). Mistakes have been letting her down and the Captain Crunch filly has the ability to be competitive on an Easter Monday afternoon at the Mot.

“She was disappointing galloping last time after 100 metres. She’s back to a stand, and we’ve made a few little gear changes, so hopefully she’ll be a bit happier. She’s honest enough without being a superstar.”

The final of the Telfer chances is in Race 9, the Aimz and Jacks Pace over 2170m (3.45pm) with Crimson Tide ($6.00FF). The three-year-old Downbytheseaside gelding is having just his fifth start today, and should appreciate a slight drop in grade since running fourth in a strong race at Gore a couple of weeks ago.

“He’s a good honest horse. He handles the stand starts well. His work has been great, and has a good front line draw, so we will see what Tim (Williams) can do with it.”
