Record-breaking win for Muscle Mountain
Setting a new national record, Muscle Mountain has been a commanding winner of the Group Three What The Hill Ashburton Sprint Mobile Trot this afternoon.
The Greg and Nina Hope trained star completed the 1700 metre mobile in 1:59.66, beating the national record of 2:01.6 set by Lemond at Alexandra Park in 2018.
Ben Hope opted to go forward from a wide draw to sit parked outside the pace-making favourite Majestic Man. In the run home Muscle Mountain then ground down the leader in what was a gutsy effort over 1700 metres.
It was quite the turnaround for Muscle Mountain after he refused to go from the stand at the Canterbury Park Cup at Addington.
Majestic Man held on for second with Muscle Mountain’s stablemate Midnight Dash finishing third.
