Quik Barbie in record-breaking form
Following some encouraging form at the trials, Quik Barbie produced on race day at Cambridge yesterday with a New Zealand record and the biggest winning margin of the day.
The two-year-old filly, trained and driven by Matty White, won the first on Christmas Eve by 11 lengths in a time of 2:52.12.
"We didn't set out to do a New Zealand record," White told Track Chat's Jo Stevens post race, "and a two-year-old 2200 stand is a rarity but we are pretty happy with that."
It was Quik Barbie's second win in eight career starts and it was impressive.
After a steady beginning she looped the field a lap out and then gave her rivals no chance.
Her time beat the very recently recorded 2:53.1 Faith In Manchester produced at Alexandra Park earlier this month.
"Hopefully there will be bigger and better things in store for her," White said of the Quaker jet filly.
White also won with hot shot Glenthorne in race 8. In his second North Island start he made it two from two for trainer Arna Donnelly, winning by more than eight lengths.
Peter Ferguson also got a double for the day, with Ruby Ridge in race 5, and Magic Four in race 6.
