42 years on from No Response's epic ID win
In 1979 No Response produced a performance that still ranks as one of the great Inter Dominion finishes of all time.
Trainer-driver Richard Brosnan was seven lengths off the leaders at the 600 metre mark at Addington, only to produce a scintillating run that left the rest of the field gasping. He careered away to a three length victory. It was a breathtaking performance.
On Saturday night, 42 years on, Brosnan was again in the winner's circle, in the 2021 ID final at Menangle with Maori Law. It was a very different victory.
This time his horse, driven by Greg Sugars, lead all the way. Victory was especially sweet victory for Brosnan and son Emmett.
As Richard said post race : "To train an Inter Dominion winner in partnership with your son is a dream."
