Aussies claim NZ Cup

They are at it again. Here's a media report from yesterday's IRT New Zealand Cup.

"The New Zealand Cup is heading to Australia, again. Copy That’s dominant win in NZ’s biggest race of any code, the NZ Trotting Cup, was the third successive year the winner was owned by Australians.
Leviathan Victorian-based owners Merv and Meg Butterworth bought Copy That as a two-year-old and opted to leave him in NZ with veteran trainer Ray Green.
Last year the Cup was won by Self Assured, owned by Jean Feiss in Victoria, and the Geelong-based Danny Zavitsanos was the major owner of 2019 Cup winner Cruz Bromac."

Mark Purdon's record

Was Mark Purdon's six driving wins on New Zealand Cup Day a record? According to HRNZ statistics it would appear so. And it seems that Purdon held the previous record as well, with five driving wins on November 10 2015 with Petite One, Prince Fearless, Lazarus, Benicio and Motu Premier.

Sixth win for Nandolo in USA

Nandolo, who was 13th in last year's New Zealand Cup, is continuing to do good things in North America. The winner of nine races here before being exported in January this year has won at Yonkers in 1:50, just two-fifths of a second shy of the track record.
He's now won six times in 2021.

Club News : Kaikoura

The Kaikoura Trotting Club is thrilled with the results from their race meeting at Addington.
We turned over just shy of $2.1 million which was an average of $129,000 per race with the last 12 races, effectively our normal Monday program, doing $147,500 per race. This result was without our normal $340,000 on course.
A big thank you must go to all the trainers, owners & drivers for making the day such a success with 16 races run which is a record amount run in one day. We had 207 horses raced so it was a mammoth job for Brian Rabbit to squeeze all these horses into 150 stalls during the day. Brian spent hours on the phone so a huge thank you goes to Brian and the trainers for their support.
The Club would also like to acknowledge the contribution our large group of loyal sponsors make to the Club. Thank you.
A very special thanks must go to Gary & Catherine at HRNZ for their support in these trying times and to the team at Addington for their outstanding job they done running such a big day seamlessly.
The Club would also like to make special mention of Darrin Williams, John Denton & Jo McMasters for their incredible support they gave us from day one.
Thanks also to Greg O’Connor for running such a successful competition on behalf of the Club won by Ray Carlson. Ray thoroughly enjoyed his day.
It was also humbling to hear so many people still converged on Kaikoura over the weekend to support the local economy.
We are now turning our attention to getting back home to Kaikoura in 2022 with plans in place to be racing on a newly upgraded track - Ben Smith, Kaikoura Trotting Club President.
