Meet The Team - Brigette Solomon
BRIGETTE SOLOMON
Title: Northern Education & Training Coordinator
Role/Duties: Coordinating and supporting the North Island based Harness Cadets as they complete their qualification to become Junior Drivers and/or trainers. Liaising with trainers and other industry participants to encourage and provide support and awesome learning opportunities for the cadets. Recently I have also been freshening up our education resources to use in some classes
How long have you worked at HRNZ? Only about 2 months – with about 6 weeks of that in and out of Level 3 lock down!
Are you involved in racing outside of work? If so how? Yes – my husband Matty White is a Harness Trainer/Driver and I help at the stables every morning in all aspects including driving trackwork and being in charge of the accounts. I also own shares in a few horses and have been involved in thoroughbred racing for many years.
What are your hobbies? Horses, hiking, going to the gym, and adventures with my Jack Russell - Spud.
Favourite horse from past or present? Standardbred – Lombo Navigator and thoroughbred - I always had a soft spot for Black Caviar.
What was your first paying job? Check out chick at Big Fresh when I was 14 for a year which was soul draining! I soon figured out I could ride racehorses for money instead!
Favourite holiday destination? Arrowtown – It’s my happy place.
What do you like most about your job? The variety of the role – it’s a good mixture of people, education, horses, and racing!
What is something that not many people know about you? When I was growing up I was the only member of my family to have anything to do with horses!
