HRNZ Independent Director

The Board of HRNZ consists of 8 members. One each from the Auckland and Christchurch Harness Racing Clubs, 4 elected by the balance of Harness Racing clubs and 2 Independent Directors.

The current vacancy is for one of the Independent Directors for a term of one year (the balance of the incumbent’s two year term).

This is a challenging and exciting time for HRNZ as the racing industry responds to the changes resulting from the Racing Industry Act 2020 coming into effect, the establishment of TAB NZ, and the formation of Racing NZ which is the new body representing the interests of the three racing codes.

We are seeking to appoint a Director who brings proven governance experience and strategic capability as HRNZ responds to opportunities and challenges over the next year.

The vacancy was created due to one of the Independent Directors taking leave of absence from the Board in May 2020 to be appointed as HRNZ’s Interim Chief Executive. The Board is now in the process of recruiting a new Chief Executive. The Interim Chief Executive has signaled his intention to reapply to become an Independent Director.
