Green takes team to Gore on Sunday
By Jonny Turner
Though the weather is painting a different picture, her firepower tells Kirstin Green it’s springtime.
Amid challenging conditions for training horses, the time has come for the trainer-driver to wheel out some of her spring talent for the first runs of their campaign.
Green had Just Like Jagger and Fiery Bandito at Addington on Friday night, while her stakes-race-winning trotter Mor Moonlight will be back in action at Gore on Sunday.
Stable junior driver Olivia Thomas will be out to chase down her first win in the sulky with the talented square-gaiter.
The opportunity comes with just one catch.
“The only thing is the last time she was at Gore she made a mistake,” Green said.
“Hopefully Liv will have her sorted, it would be awesome if she could do the job with her.”
Mor Moonlight has had two workouts to prepare for her return and she’s chased quality types in Fiery Bandito and Duchess Maria in each.
With plenty of spring targets ahead, the four-year-old will improve off her Gore outing but she still must rate a major threat.
“I am happy with her, she is in a good space,” Green said.
“She has had tying-up issues at different times but we seem to be on top of those.”
“She has The Dark Horse and another lead-up race to aim at down here before we look at Cup Week.”
Emily lines up alongside her stablemate Mor Moonlight on Sunday, with Green to do the steering.
The trotter has been going honest races and looks a Trifecta and First 4 chance in an even line-up.
Love Meister looked sharp winning a recent workout for the Green barn ahead of his return to racing at Gore.
Like Mor Moonlight, the pacer comes to Gore with one slight query.
“He is a big track horse so it will just be how he gets around Gore.”
“He’s a nice maiden, he went a good race first up then we put him out.”
“He’s come up really well and I was happy with his workout last week, if he can handle the track he should be a pretty good each way chance.”
Mach A Wish starts alongside Love Meister in maiden company on Sunday.
The pacer looks a place threat from a niggly draw in barrier 7.
Garonne returned to racing with a third placing last week and will step back out on Sunday for Green.
Though the trotter takes on a harder field this week, he is in a good space.
“He is a horse that hasn’t held his weight in the past but he is looking really good at the moment.”
“It was a good enough run last week, it is harder this time but he should go a pretty honest race.”
