George Eliot inches closer to Dominion start

The Trevor Grant-trained George Eliot has moved significantly closer to a start in the $400,000 Renwick Farms Dominion Trot, following Monday's Tactical Landing Ashburton Trotters Sprint.

The Royal Aspirations six-year-old finished fourth in the Group 3 feature, taken out impressively by Prestigious.

As a result she has moved from 29th to 18th in this week's Go Media New Zealand Trotting Cup day rankings - just three places away from sealing a start in the Dominion at Addington on Tuesday, November 10.

In finishing fifth and sixth in the same race Tarragindi has also improved his position, going from 24th to 20th while Resolve is now 14th, up two places from 16th.

Defending champion Gus ($2) is at short odds to win again this year ahead of Habibti Pat ($7) and equal third favourites Prestigious, Higher Power and Mr Love  ($8).

This week's rankings for the New Zealand Cup are largely unchanged though Renegade has climbed three places, from 17th to 14th, after finishing fourth in Monday's NZB Airfreight Ashburton Flying Stakes won by The Lazarus Effect.

Superstar Australian Leap To Fame is at $1.70 to take out the country's greatest race with Marketplace at $4.50 and The Lazarus Effect at $10.
