Fuel relief payments from today
The first payments of the temporary fuel relief package will be made from today (Monday, April 20).
The package, announced by the TAB New Zealand on April 11, will provide up to $1m to support participants across harness racing and thoroughbred racing as fuel prices continue to climb.
The subsidy period will run to July 31, 2026 with all payments backdated to April 1, 2026.
The subsidy only applies to official race-days.
The payments to Harness Racing participants are as follows :
Drivers - One payment of $40 per day
Trainers - One payment of $40 per day
Owners - Payment of $50 per horse that raced and finished outside the top four.
Clubs - One payment of $500 per race-day
If, for instance, a horse is driven by his/her trainer then that person will receive both amounts.
Payments will be made for late scratched horses.
No withholding tax will be deducted from drivers’ payments and no GST will be added to the payments.
