Classie Brigade completes Kaikoura Cup hat-trick
Classie Brigade has won his third Alabar Kaikoura Cup in a row at Addington this afternoon.
John Dunn gave the horse the perfect run. After a safe start he got into the trail before making his move in the passing lane, beating favourite South Coast Arden. Classie Brigade’s stable-mate Henry Hubert was third.
South Coast Arden, the second favourite for the IRT New Zealand Cup at Addington next Tuesday (Nov 9), reared at the start but settled quickly and was three wide for a time before being parked.
In the end he was no match for Classie Brigade, who became the first horse to win three Kaikoura Cups in a row.
“What a marvel,” commentator Matt Cross said as he crossed the finish line
Classie Brigade has now won 21 of 80 starts.
With his second placing South Coast Arden has eased to $3.60 for the IRT New Zealand Cup with defending champion Self Assured at $2.10. Classie Brigade has come in from $26 to $13.
