Changes to 2YO Bonus Scheme
Some important amendments have been made to the Entain 2YO Bonus Scheme for 2025.
The Terms and Conditions have been agreed to after a comprehensive review following the opening 12 months of the scheme.
Effective immediately, all 2YO Pacers and Trotters winning their maiden race (in a 2YO only race) will continue to win a $12,000 bonus for their connections - $8000 to the owner, $4000 for the breeder.
The big change is that the $6000 bonus paid out for either running second to a previous bonus winner or being the first non-winning 2YO pacer and trotter home in a ratings race will be discontinued.
"We have more and more two-year-olds racing all the time and HRNZ in conjunction with Entain are keen to support this trend throughout 2025,” says Harness Racing New Zealand's Head of Racing and Wagering Matthew Peden
"The number of two-year-olds that raced increased from 18 to 21 per cent of the crop in 2024 and that number will only rise this year."
In 2024 around $1.15m in bonuses was paid out.
"We believe the revised terms and conditions are a lot simpler and are targeted," says Peden, "you win you first race you get the bonus, and I am mindful that we will need to provide opportunities relative to the amount of two-year-olds wanting to race."
