Cancer treatment confirmed for Dan Erickson

Thanks to public donations of over $14,000, Morrinsville trainer Dan Erickson will leave next week for cancer treatment in England.

Erickson's plight was made public in May when a givealittle page was set up to raise funds for the trip.

He is fighting a rare form of cancer which is resistant to chemo and radiation therapies. He will undergo proton therapy which targets tumours with charged particles (protons) rather than traditional X-rays (photons).

It is not available in this country, with London considered the best option.

Now it's been confirmed he will leave New Zealand on August 20 and is expected to be away for around three months.

Many of the costs that Erickson will incur will be funded by the givealittle page that currently stands at $14,045.
