Cambridge Raceway to host Breakfast with the Stars

Cambridge Raceway will host a special Breakfast with the Stars workouts on Saturday May 29, ahead of the IRT Harness Jewels 2021 meeting on Sunday June 6.

The casual meeting is expected to attract many of the horses competing in the season-defining event the following weekend and it offers connections a chance to give their horses a final look at the track in racing conditions before the big event.

“We have workouts every Saturday but this one should attract a bigger crowd than usual,” Cambridge Raceway CEO Dave Branch said.

“It not only gives the horses and drivers a chance to have a solid hit out on the track but it also means fans can come and see the horses in a more informal setting and punters can come and do some further homework too.”

The IRT Harness Jewels 2021 features the best age group races for pacers and trotters, with nine Group One races over 1609m worth a staggering $900,000 in total stakes money.

Woodend Beach-based trainers Craig and Aimee Edmonds, have confirmed that Five Wise Men, the clear leader in the Gr.1 Mitre 10 3YO Ruby (1609m) with almost $180,000 in stakes, will be in action on Saturday.

Complete fields for the Breakfast with the Stars workouts will be available on the Harness Racing New Zealand website from 12pm on Friday May 28.

The workouts will start at 10am and The Clubhouse Sports Bar and Taylor St Coffee window will be open with food and hot beverages available for purchase.

Tune in to TAB Trackside 1 for in-depth previews of the championship race day including comments from the key contenders with The Box Seat IRT Harness Jewels Preview on Monday May 31 at 10pm (available online at www.tab.co.nz and www.hrnz.co.nz) and the TAB Trackside IRT Harness Jewels preview at 10am on Wednesday June 2.

Breakfast with the Stars is the first of three events being held in the lead up to Cambridge’s biggest race day, with the IRT Harness Jewels Golf Day on Friday June 4 and IRT Harness Jewels Eve Function on Saturday June 5. Tickets for both events can be purchased at www.cambridgeraceway.co.nz/harnessjewels.
