Bond thrilled with winning run down south

By Jonny Turner

Tuneinsportsfans capped a week to remember for trainer Lyndon Bond with his strong win at Wingatui on Sunday.

The pacer continued his sparkling grass track form, bringing up his third victory on turf in his last five starts.

Bond started his week of racing in the best possible style, winning the first two races at Ascot Park on Wednesday with It’sallaboutthemoney and Geena’s Gift.

“I wouldn’t have had a week like it, it is a great thrill,” the trainer said, “you don’t have runs like that too often.”

Bond juggles training his team, who have won six races already this year, with full-time work for the Alliance Group.

The trainer credits family teamwork for the success of his stable.

“My wife Aimee deserves most of the credit, she does all the yards, the jog teams and the gear.”

“I just have to turn up at the track and drive them.”

“Our daughter is keen on the horses, she’s away at Telford and our son James has been helping out a lot, which has been great.”

“It is a big, team effort.”

Tuneinsportsfans has only been out of the first two in his last six starts, with his miss coming in his only start on an all-weather track.

“He just loves the grass, we don’t know whether it is because it’s the harder surface of the all-weather, but he seems to put in on the grass.”

Tuneinsportsfans worked hard to find the lead in the middle stages, but it took little out of him as he strode clear for an easy victory for owners, the Cleland Racing Syndicate.

Bond linked up with driver Carter Dalgety in their winning double on Wednesday.

The reinsman gave Itsallaboutthemoney a sweet trip and she made full use of it to score.

Geena’s Gift relished a step back in grade when running to an easy victory, one race later.

Both horses were nominated to race at Wingatui, but were scratched after their wins made them ineligible.
