Blue September fund-raiser gaining serious momentum

Bolstered by nine wins on Friday night, HRNZ's Blue September campaign is off to a brilliant start.

So far $20,000 has been raised for the New Zealand Prostate Cancer Foundation, that's around half of last year's total already.

Now in its fourth year, the HRNZ campaign features 12 drivers (ambassadors) wearing the blue pants during the month, with money raised every time they win a race through contributions from HRNZ, clubs and the ambassadors' individual sponsors.

Since September 1 there have been 18 wins, with the country's leading driver Blair Orange racking up the most with seven victories so far.

Tony Cameron and Robbie Close, with two wins apiece, have raised the most money through their sponsors, at $1900 each. Cameron had a double at Alexandra Park on Friday night with Captain Sampson and American Muscle while Close won with Dalton Shard and I'm Rockin at Addington.

Sam Thornley also received one-off donations of $4500, thanks to generous benefactors, Cup Industry Golf (Laurie Goodson) and the Hugo Trust.

HRNZ would like to like everyone, especially those sponsoring the ambassadors, for all their support

Among upcoming fundraisers for the cause will be the annual HRNZ Bingo night on Saturday, September 21 at Spectators, Addington Raceway starting at 5pm.

The next day, September 22, will also see Blue September ambassador-only races at the Banks Peninsular Trotting Club's first meeting this spring, as well as another edition of the very popular "Blue Bolt" where the ambassadors dash 100 metres down the Motukarara straight.
