The Northern Southland Trotting Club present its betting guide for today’s 12 race card at Ascot Park.

Race 1

Donald Trump is the clear top pick here.

He looks well above average and meets a line up he can handle.

Riley Moment looks to have ability and can feature, but her gallop on debut is a concern.

Dem Bones Dem Bones looks a great eachway contender.

It’s also a concern that she gets a long way back but has been running great races recently.

Galleon’s Future ran a great race last time, is reliable and should give you a great run for your eachway money, too.

Selections: 11-10-3-8. Suggested Bet: Donald Trump (11) Win.

Race 2

A very even race and just about any horse could win.

Noosa Beach and Jaffie J both have the kind of overall form to be considered top chances.

But both of their draws mean they will be needing a little bit of luck in the running.

Hans Ideal looks a great eachway prospect and could be the safer bet.

She was good first up and should strip fitter and has drawn well.

The Naenae Express and Arizona Doll look next best and deserve respect on their last start efforts.

Selections: 5-9-12-13. Suggested Bet: Hans Ideal (5) Eachway.

Race 3

Lilac Becky has the draw and the form to be a serious threat here.

Her racing style means she needs luck, so she is no certainty.

Beyond her the field is very even.

Calico Hill and Smokin Annie look the next best threats.

Both come in to this race on the back of strong last start efforts.

Both also may require a little bit of luck from their draws.

The Night Watchman looks next best after he also produced a nice run in his last start.

Selections: 1-10-8-5. Suggested Bet: Lilac Becky (1) Win.

Race 4

As always manners are key in a trot and for that reason Maudarchy rates on top here.

She is not only reliable and capable of putting herself in a great spot, she has been really firing recently.

Ruby Seddon has not been as reliable in her short career, but there is no questioning her talent.

Her workout runs to prepare for her return suggests she will run a huge race.

The Funky Monkey is less reliable but certainly capable and is a massive winning hope if she can trot throughout.

The same can be said for Miss Crazed, though she is a very risky proposition at the moment.

Selections: 7-10-3-6. Suggested Bet: Maudarchy (7) Eachway.

Race 5

This is an absolutely cracking field and you could pick one of the top five runners and get a great run for your money.

King Of Trumps, Bettastar, Leithen Burn and Seventh Heaven all look well above average types and each brings strong trial and workout form to their debuts.

It is tough to split them, but we have had to and we have leant towards Seventh Heaven, who is unbeaten in her trials and workouts.

King Of Trumps has the best draw of the quartet and could be at decent odds, so consider him next.

Outside of the top four, Boarding Pass rates highly on his outstanding debut effort at Winton.

Selections: 11-2-5-6. Suggested Bet: King Of Trumps (2) Eachway.

Race 6

Her formline may not suggest it, but Northview Peg has lifted her game recently and looks a big threat.

Hopefully she starts at a decent price and offers good eachway value.

Emerald Abbey looks capable of a big run on her last start and should give you a good sight if you back her eachway.

Lynard Skynard is capable and could easily win, but is likely to start at shorter odds and can’t seem to quite crack a win.

Change The Shape has looked good in his trials leading in to this and must be considered.

Race 7

Insarchatwist is a handy horse that never seems to get very much luck.

Here’s hoping from her excellent draw fortune can favour her.

Her last start effort, albeit on grass, was excellent and she rates on top because of it.

This is another even race with several horses looking capable of featuring behind her.

Ride In A Concorde is among them and so too is Holy Havoc.

Mr Clooney can feature despite his disappointing last start effort.

Also look for more improvement from Bettors Highlight.

Selections: 3-12-13-14. Suggested Bet: Insarchatwist (2) Win.

Race 8

Better Tart looks to have a class edge on her rivals here.

Her last win was absolutely outstanding, which may see her start at short odds.

So, you may want to looks at combination bets around her or at backing another horse for a place.

Onedin Hurricane should rate highly for that, he is pretty tough and reliable which is a big help.

As should Change At The Top, who is drawn the best of the other race contenders.

Magic Mike and Rakarippa also rate well.

Both are well capable of figuring, but their draws could make things hard for them.

Selections: 6-2-10-12. Suggested Bet: Better Tart (6) & Change At The Top (2) Quinella.

Race 9

Tweedledee has been in outstanding form and this race looks very winnable for him considering the hot fields he has been taking on.

Though, he is no home run as there are plenty of chances in this even line up.

Aveross Majesty is among them following his outstanding win at Cromwell.

Sekkie Monkey and Afterburner both have the ability to figure and should give eachway backers a good run for their money.

As should Missie Castleton, who is more reliable with her manners than those two.

Selections: 12-10-8-6. Suggested bet: Afterburner (3) Eachway.

Race 10

What an outstanding line up this is. Punters can back any of the top four and know their money is on a fast horse.

The draws for this race are somewhat of a leveller.

Though it won’t be straight forward from barrier 7, Watch Me Now is the top pick.

She has real class about her and she should be ready to show that after her last start at Winton.

Love On The Rocks and Yankee Party and both highly talented and can certainly push the favourite.

They will give their eachway backers a huge sight.

Deus Ex could be the value for punters.

His draw isn’t ideal, but he is tough and can work in to the race and feature at decent odds.

Selections: 7-10-6-12. Suggested bet: Boxed Trifecta 7-10-6-12.

Race 11

Sentry has the race record and class to be putting this field away.

The only slight concern is he is first up since November, so he is not as race hardened as his rivals.

But from his sweet draw it may not matter.

Tulsa Jaccka looks a great eachway chance as she also has a perfect draw to work with.

She looks a strong quinella option with the favourite.

Melton Mafia is going really well but his draw is a concern, so he may be best played in trifecta and combination bets.

Wolfenstein is in a similar spot. He is clearly going well but just needs a slice of luck from his draw.

Johnny Mac is next best.

Selections: 5-1-11-9 Suggested Bet: Sentry (5) & Tulsa Jaccka (1).

Race 12

Croesus looks the one everyone who has had a tough day will be looking to in the last.

He has the class to beat this field and should be backed with a decent amount of confidence.

Bailey’s Diamond was very unlucky last time, as she can be with her racing style, and she rates next best.

Onesmartfella is very honest and must go in to trifecta and combination bets.

El Dorado is in a similar position.

Those looking for value to try to get out of a tricky spot before the last race should look to Ideal Gal and Duastar, who can run nice races at decent odds.
